Tax prep service

On Feb 8,2019 had a horrendous experience with 3 different tax preparers at the Portsmouth,RI Senior Center.After being told how simple my return was 2 hours later I was still there.Ed ,the initial preparer after telling me he had been doing taxes for 35 yrs. needed to call for help three separate times .When it came time for a review ,Isat and waited while watching Bob ,the reviewer do 2 other people who finished after I did. I finally spoke up saying it was unfair for him to ignore me and do others first.(2 men).guess he thought my time was not important.As he is reviewing,a third man(could not read his signature on his badge) came over and said to me "you know this is a free service" He had no business with me except to come and buy me. Told me I'd be in big trouble if I went to another preparer .no more room to write.Hope they felt like big shots. Never went over the return.Ed just told me to sign.Found mistake when I went over it at home.After 2 hrs,((actual time sitting there,not waiting to be seen) Bob rudely asks me if I have someplace I have to get to.Really??? We did tubotax last year 2017. It was easy.

The manager of the Prescott Ariz. AARP tax service said we could do it for free. so as I was busy my wife went down to do the taxes. after 2 hours I get a call on what we were to pay, 1000 per-cent more than last year (we are over 65 and retired).

I told her to leave and we will do turbo tax again. We did not say they were wrong we just wanted a second opinion, we are retired and need the money they said we needed to pay. A man who we guess oversees, who was not the the person doing the taxes told her she was never allowed to ever come back. I went down and wanted an explanation on why he was rude, he said she wasted our time and demanded me to leave.

I asked for his name and the manager he would not give it, he got loud and said he would call the police if I did not leave.

It got ugly, I stood up for my wife, he said he would turn me into the IRS. The WORST CUSTOMER RELATIONS experience in my life.

Perhaps calling the press along with a civil standby would have been appropriate in lieu of the obvious threats anyway! Kudos' to you for standing up for your wife!

Terriable service

A truck hit my auto as I was backing into my home driveway, with my felt signal on. I came into the house to call the police, in order to get a police report. While I was on the phone in front of my window, the truck driver backed up and tried to leave, ice was on the street and he hit the right front of my car while being stopped by the tree on my parkway. After making out the police report, I call my insurance company, AARP Hartford to report the accident. Then the policemen pushed my car up on my driveway. All this was January 31, 2019. I called my Hartford insurance man and informed him my car was not drivable, and that I need a rental auto, and I was informed they would only allow me 20,00 a day for auto rental and I told them I could not afford that because my property tax is due the first of March. They told me my car would be towed, in a couple of days, then they would get back to me. Today is Feb. 6, 2019 and my car is still sitting on my driveway. I need an auto to keep my doctor's appointments, pick up my meds from my pharmacy, go to church and do my shopping. My car is still on my driveway and I have no transportation. I have had this insurance over 30 years with no accident, and I also have my house insured with AARP Hartford, but that is going to change because of terrible customer service. My daughter is coming here for Texas on Saturday to get a lawyer.

They claim to protect you from scam artists

I renewed for 4 years last year but they sent a renewal carefully worded to suggest it was 2019 renewal or extension. They are at the same level as the scam artists they claim to protect you from

Great insurance

AARP! Is truly a great Insurance company for life Ins. we had a love one to pass and the company paid off without any issues. have my entire family Insured. Don’t want to have another passing in my family. they keep your private info private and I do mean private. AWESOME AWESOME.

I am shopping for insurance plans myself. Do you happen to know the minimum age to qualify for the insurance plan?

And then once you qualify, can you bring your immediate or extended family on board? Thank you for your time.

Another Pissed Customer

I agree with William Slaton regarding the discontinuance of Silver Sneakers in California! My husband & I were very excited to receive this benefit and our local gym was was excited to offer it to the many seniors that attend their gym. I was also amazed and confused to find out that it is just California! The topper was the letter we received from you offering another benefit package with PWRFitness a 50/50 plan and then the letter is asking the insured to approach the gym! I really resent that you are asking the insured to do you sales work for you and you make it sound as though it is this great benefit! Our gym is not signed up as a partner and once again, you are creating more work for everyone else and removing a valuable benefit that provided a proactive approach to healthcare. My mother-in-law passed away on October 24, 2018. I called in October 29, 2018 to cancel her insurance and auto payments. The auto payments were deducted for November 2018 and December 2018. I have made 4 phone calls to you company to request the refunds. the November refund was received on December 15, 2018. The December refund has not been received, but have been assured that it is being processed. It is amazing, interesting and disappointing that it can possibly take up to 6 weeks for a refund to process when all these transactions are electronic. United Health Care has been the preferred insurance company based on other family members experiences, but I agree with Mr. Slaton and will have to start shopping elsewhere. Junk mail

Tons of "Junk Mail" trying to sell me all sorts of Insurance. The only thing I've been using any of their discounts for is my Consumer Cellular account.......One whole dollar!

Same here. They won't stop despite frequent requests.

I called for SEVEN MONTHS. Each time I asked to be removed from their lists. I learned today that the request was not filed till TWO WEEKS ago and it will still take months to take effect.

I am filing an official complaint with the FTC. Maybe that is the only way to get off their list.

Not helpful

I lost my job in 2009 after 30 plus years with employer. Age discrimination? Maybe but the worst experience was finding affordable healthcare! Having a pre-existing condition I was charged $2000.00/month. (It went up every 6 months ). I am still recuperating from financial loss. No one from AARP was willing to help find other solutions. On my own I discovered a plan for pre-existing condition coverage. All I want to convey is do your own due diligence and be sure you don’t have to spend your retirement money wastefully.

No discounts with aarp

Today shopping used car aarp preferred dealers. No discounts from dealers web sites. Aarp gets referral fee that’s all. Know folks in the business. Buyer beware no deal here
