Aarp - Membership Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Got billed twice and almost paid twice. Got a notice that my membership was expiring in 30 days. Went to my online bank to send an e-check when I discovered that I had sent a check for a 1 year subscription 5 months ago. When I called customer service, the lady in the service replied to my complaint: "Sir, we always send an 8 week notice before a membership expires" When I replied: "But you sent me a 6 MONTH notice!" She again replied: Sir, we always send an 8 week notice before....to which I interrupted: But you sent me a 6 MONTH notice! This ridiculous dialogue went on for several minutes; out of sheer frustration I finally asked her to cancel my AARP subscription ( I've been a member for 11 years).

My mother paid up 5 years in June. (She uses there supplemental medical insurance which has been very good and must maintain current membership).

In December they send her another membership bill even though she has 4.5 YEARS remaining. Are they doing this to get seniors to write them checks thinking that their membership is expiring soon?????

Aarp - Review in Insurance category

AARP wholeheartedly endorsed Obama care even though it was the most destructive threat against the American healthcare system Now they're saying call your congressman to vote against the new health care plan smells of strict politics They should be making suggestions to improve the new health care plan since their main responsibility is improving healthcare for all the Americans not again becoming Involved in politics Tom

I received the same negative email from AARP concerning the new proposed Health Bill. I told AARP to cancel my membership and stated why did I not receive an email when Obama care was passed?

Aarp - Customer Care Review

Those of us, who worked all our lives and made sure we gave our best for our employers, are appalled at the female employee who already had a donut and had spent fours plus on the computer signing up for your company and buying tickets, etc.. Any employee that I would have called in on the weekend, who spent four hours on your website and not completing the assigned work, would have severely disciplined. You have got to be kidding!!

Any company who has to send out as much junk mail as AARP has to be crooked.

I believe AARP is mostly a ***

I joined AARP a few years back. I'd turned 55 and thought it was what you did.

After only one year, I decided to not renew my membership primarily because of the huge amount of junk mail that I received. I now believe that AARP doesn't care about it members. It only cares about how much money it can *** out of its members. One example is the solicitations I'm still receiving over 2 years after my membership lapsed: Every few of weeks I receive the same solicitation from AARP.

On the front of the envelope it boldly proclaims "CARD ENCLOSED" and "IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT MEMBERSHIP". The enclosed card is actually card board piece telling me abut the free duffle bag I'll get when I reinstate my membership.

Not just junk mail they sell your phone number and only today I realized why I am getting at least 3 *** phone calls per day for the last year (since joining) (even though I am on the Nat'l Do Not Call List) about med alerts, life insurance etc. So I asked them and they said yes they do "share" my info with third parties. I would have never thought that AARP is a scam but it is!

Bogus Roadside Assistance Mailer

I received a mailer for AARP roadside assistance through Allstate. The offer included 2 watches even if I decided not to keep the offer.

The website in the mailer did not work after several tries. I googled AARP and found several websites for their roadside assistance but no mention of the watches. You pay the same through AARP as you do through any other roadside service company. Still, I wanted to give AARP roadside service a try even though I wouldn't get the watches.

I felt that I would be more protected though AARP. WRONG. Their website would not accept my debit card and instructed me to call a number, which I did not do and will not do. I have sent several emails to AARP about this matter and have yet to receive a response.

They are known for bait-and-switch tactics and I will never ever try to purchase any of their endorsed products again. I also will not be renewing my membership.

They have conned me for the last time. Are you listening suppliers of products and services through AARP?

If you've never signed up and get these bogus bills rip them up and forget about them! They can't do anything to you.

Why make it harder than it is. Just add it to the other junk mail everyone gets.

I've gone through the exact same experience. Years ago I got so tired of their soliciting me through mail.

Endless times I ask them to remove me from any distribution list they had. Finally I stop hearing from them until a few months ago and they showed up again this time they just started sending me a bill for $16.00. I wrote them telling them I never joined and have zero interest in joining. They keep sending me bills for that $16.00 and each time I return their mailing with a note advising I DON'T want to be a member and never ask to be.

They are still sending me a bill. These people are horrible! I'm so sick of them. They just try to pressure older people into paying their $16.00 fee.

No telling how many elderly been screwed by AARP. Please don't get involved with these crooks and tell your friends not too !

It was a bittersweet vindication to find customer complaints galore regarding The Hartford. I'm not the only one--by far! Those complaints were overwhelmingly related to its highly questionable business ethic. I'm sure you're quite aware of it. Yet, in the face of such untoward reviews by Hartford's [surely "ex"] customers, your too-long business tie with Hartford has given me pause to wonder about AARP's moral ethic. Is AARP slowly sacrificing it's good name? Has greed become the corporate norm, even at your nonprofit? AARP's fine-print disclaimer does assure it isn't the insurerYet, despite Hartford's shameful record, it doesn't in the least stop AARP from religiously collecting its soiled royalty fees for use of AARP's [questionable] "intellectual property." It is AARP's tacit approval of Hartford's unfair & uncaring business practices towards its suckers, uh, insureds. Is that it in a nutshell; keep the dough rolling in? Well, you inherit your own guilt, by maintaining a bewilderingly long-standing association with Hartford. Hartford's tantalizing diamond "hook" is for the initial premium to be amazingly low [for like coverage among all other auto/home insurers]. Then, no matter how long and "clean" the insured's record [read: no claims], jack it up without valid explanation EVERY subsequent year. C'mon, AARP; use that intellectual property yourself, get some cojones, and disassociate yourself from yet another blatant case of unrepentant, corpulent greed-hogs who don't provide what the insured paid for--quick response and resolution to legitimate losses. Hartford is a serious blemish that reflects directly upon AARP.

I canceled my Hartford car insurance policy. After researching, found the EXACT same coverage at Travelers for over $100 less.

Worst Customer Service

I belong to AARP and made the mistake of booking through their travel site "powered by Expedia". I booked non-refundable, discounted rooms, paid in full in advance.

The week before my trip, I called the hotel to verify dates and check in times, no answer. So, I called the parent company, Choice Hotels. They confirmed I was paid in full, the dates and that I could check in late. We get to the hotel, the manager says that the rooms have not been paid for.

I spend an hour on the phone with the Expedia call center (somewhere in India), who tells me this is a third party reservation and to call AARP. I spend an hour and 20 minutes on the phone with AARP (again, a call center in India) who tells me that this is a third party reservation and that they can't help me. I finally call Choice Hotels again and they confirm that I am paid in full. I ask that they call the hotel manager to let him know that and they put me on hold.

While I am on hold, I get disconnected. I call back and the person yet again, confirms that I am paid in full and puts me on the phone with the hotel manager who is very condescending and arrogant. I hang up and decide right then and there, that I will never book through a third party again. And the AARP membership will not be renewed.

This started my vacation off on the wrong foot. AARP, Expedia and Choice Hotels have been crossed off all future booking lists.

Be Wary of AARP invoice tactic - You don't owe them anything

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Consumer over 50 - BEWARE New solicitation tactic from AARP in California. An invoice notice stating you are late on paying and invoice and their VP, Mr.

O'Day is concerned. Just to let you know, you aren't late, you probably didn't even sign up. AARP appears are cash poor and just want your $16 at any cost. You can get their attention on their Facebook page.

Messenger appears to be the only thing working for them. If you want to get discounts, shop wise and local - the people down the street will offer you more!

Hope this is the 100 words you need....... Ok is this the right word count?

Aarp - Billing Services Prescription Coverage Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I had identify theft on my card i was using and when I that resolved i called Aarp with the new card #. But did not realize the expiration date had been changed, so for 4 months I payed using that card and got confirmation #'s. The card had been rejected, with no notification. Oct 2016. I tried to fill a script and was told I had no coverage. So I used a different card and paid up until Nov 2016. No coverage! But yet they have my money! They will not reinstate me. But said I can apply in Jan for over 60.00 a month plus co-pays! Calling my attorney! I guess they are playing Dr's now! I'm not old and senile!

First off, I joined finally a few weeks ago. Today I got something in plastic with a string on it for a gift. Nowhere was there an explanation as to what it was. I hung it in the closet for the next yard sale. Seriously? What did that cost to send? I get from the Website that AARP is not into feedback the way Sears and Woolworth weren't. I am glad to see this rendering that I found online. Hey AARP, it should be in your website. Not even "contact us" from what I could see. The next complaint is residual of all that is wrong with this. My friends who live in the Midwest were telling me about the discounts they get at restaurants and other shopping from AARP. That is specifically why I purchased this. Guess what? I live at South Beach in Miami Beach and truthfully, I can walk to at least a few dozen restaurants. Why is it the only people in my neighborhood that take the AARP card are Burger King and Dunkin' Donuts. When I wasted my time on the AARP website and came up with those renderings, I was insulted the way a consumer should never ever be insulted. I've been taken and I really don't think I'll ever stop warning people. So far when I mention this to friends the response is usually very negative and they are your target audience. I'm done, please don't waste anymore of your vast wealth sending me anything. I'm finished with you.

Update: I have heard nothing from anybody. I do however still get junk mail trying to sell me one thing or another with the AARP logo all over it.

It is also evident that AARP compromised my email and since joining I have had more spam than I have ever had.

It just gets worse. Consumer beware is putting it mildly.

Stop the renewal scam

I too have fallen victim to the AARP renewal scam. They keep telling me to renew all the time yet I paid for 3 years. My current card does not expire until 2019 but due to memory issues I just renewed. My new card does not expire until 2024 now. There is no reason for AARP to continually request known members to renew their policies. If you sent an email to a customer then you know who they are and their membership status. Stop with the renewal scam AARP. I am under the impression that you keep poor records of your customers and partially owned by The Hartford.

Seems bizarre that an organization that claims membership that is beneficial to older Americans would have a policy of multiple billing of paid up customers, seemingly to prey on potential forgetfulness. This has been going on for years. It can no longer be considered an oversight.

Still NO change!

I recently received my premature renewal cards in October of 2016. Low and behold I get another renewal notice in the mail on November 9, 2016.

This is seriously set up like a scam which can easily take advantage of unsuspecting elderly people.

AARP needs to fix this issue.
