My father received a lovely scare letter entitled "WATER LINE RESPONSIBILITY REVIEW" . Quote " A water line responsibility review for Virginia Beach indicates that you are responsible for the exterior water line at _________.
" This scam letter looks official and can easily frighten older people and has the AARP logo on it. MY FATHER DOES NOT EVEN OWN THE HOUSE! I do. My name is on the deed, he lives in the in-law addition.
He has never been on the title. I called HomeServe, the insurance company, who said they did not do a review, but sent it to all the homeowners. I pointed out that my father had never owned the house. The point is AARP will farm out addresses to insurance and other companies who will send scare letters to older people.
It scared my father enough (he is 75) that he brought it upstairs for me to read. NO MORE SCARE LETTERS AARP!!!
