I haven't been a member of AARP for over five years yet they still send me solicitations for auto insurance through Hartford several times a year. They say I am "pre-selected" based on my good driving record. I finally took the bait and called them. After 20 minutes on hold and after a long interview process the sales lady tells me I don't qualify based on Hartford's strict standards. That's because I told her five years ago I had a claim for hail damage and a year and half ago a hit and run driver blew through a steady red light and damaged my car.

First of all, if I was pre-screened then they shouldn't have kept soliciting me every two months if two not at fault claims disqualified me. That should be a warning to anyone considering getting insurance through Hartford. If your car is ever damaged by hail, which is an act of God, look for this company to raise your rates if not drop you entirely. And if a nut speeds through a steady red light and leaves the scene, they will also look to drop you.

AARP and Hartford wasted 20 minutes of my time for absolutely no reason.

Reason of review: Not as described/ advertised.

Location: Hempstead, New York
